Lost amid the many storylines in this year’s 3-10 Falcons campaign seems to be the sun setting on a Hall-of-Fame career. If his claim at the start of the season that 2013 would be his last still holds true, Tony Gonzalez has just 12 more quarters of play left in his storied career.
Because of that, Gonzalez is expected to play as many snaps as he can possibly be on the field for. He participated in 100 percent of the offensive snaps against Green Bay on Sunday, and head coach Mike Smith expects that trend to continue for the next three games.
“Tony wants to savor every snap that he has left,” Smith said Monday. “We know that he has a finite number of snaps left in this season now that we know there’s just three more games, there’s no postseason. Tony wants to play as many snaps as he can. He gives us the best chance to win when he’s in there, so I would imagine Tony’s going to play a lot of games these past three games.”
