Locklear, a 10-year veteran, joined the team on Wednesday and on Thursday, he said physically he’s ready to play, but the mental side of the position is still improving as he learns what he called a “complex system” in Atlanta’s offense.
While he may be used as a backup tackle on both sides of the line in Atlanta, Locklear said he’s played most of the snaps in his career as a right tackle and he’s more comfortable there. Regardless of where he plays, one day into his Falcons career, he feels like a rookie all over again as he adjusts to a new team in the middle off the season.
“I feel like a rookie again,” Locklear said Thursday. “Coming in yesterday, it’s midseason. It’s not like offseason, OTAs and training camp. When you’re coming in midseason, you’ve got to learn a whole new offense, thrown into the fire, so to speak. I feel a lot better today than I did yesterday.”
