A day after head coach Mike Smith said he was concerned with left tackle Sam Baker’s progress with an injured knee, Smith announced that Baker would be heading for season-ending injured reserve.
The transaction is slated to take place Wednesday, putting the Falcons’ roster at 52 players, which means the team will be in position to make another move this week.
Smith said Baker would have a procedure done this week on his knee, which kept him out of Sunday’s game against Seattle.
Lamar Holmes looks to be the player to take Baker’s spot at left tackle for the rest of the year, and Smith sounded confident in his progression as a second-year player.
“I think Lamar has progressed extremely well at left tackle,” Smith said Tuesday night. “He’s gotten better every week. You have to evaluate those guys individually and I think he’s done a very good job. He’s gotten better. I don’t think he’s really had a setback game. He’s gotten better individually every week.”
