The Falcons will set to work this week trying to determine who will be the team’s punt returner when they take the field against Arizona on Sunday.
Because of injuries to Julio Jones and Roddy White, Harry Douglas has been thrust into a more important offensive role, taking him out of the special teams game.
Cornerback Robert Alford stepped into the spot for Sunday’s win over Tampa Bay, but a fumble proved costly and allowed the Bucs to make it a game to start the second half. This week, the Falcons are taking a close look at the spot as special teams coordinator Keith Armstrong says there are a couple of other players the team wants to look at.
“We’ll make a decision during the course of this week as to who we’re going to go with,” Armstrong said Tuesday. “Thank God we have some options.”
When asked, Armstrong wouldn’t divulge any names that could be vying for the spot, saying only “We’ll see.” As soon as we hear something, we’ll pass it along.
